From precancers to skin rejuvenation—a review of the wide spectrum of current applications and future possibilities for plasma dermatology

Cold plasma medicine is a quickly evolving field with great laboratory research backing and expanding clinical use. Because of the easy accessibility of skin, dermatology is uniquely positioned to be at the forefront of exploring new areas for plasma treatment. Dermatol-ogists are already using cold plasma for ulcers and conducting trials to treat precancerous kerato-ses, warts, nail fungus, and acne. Based on our understanding of cold plasma principles, numerous other skin conditions may become the targets of successful cold plasma therapies. In this article, we review the concepts behind current dermatological uses of cold plasma, challenges specific to dermatology, and the possible future of expanding cold plasma use to treat skin diseases. ? 2020 by Begell House, Inc.
