The Asian financial crisis appears to have passed but the repercussions for industry around the world are still being felt. In this environment industrial packaging has been in a state of flux. Despite this being the era of increasing globalisation, industrial packaging remains in most markets purely a domestic trade with each region experiencing its own individual problems. This is not to say that manufacturers have widely differing concerns from each other - most of the problems that companies are encountering are of a similar nature across the world. The current revival in the Asian economy and boom in the US, however, mean that the major markets are slowly beginning to improve. There are still some countries, even those with relatively significant economic power, which are still lagging behind in both performance and sophistication.
