Various automobile manufacturers are working harder towards the development and widespread use of clean energy vehicles that put lesser load on the environment, in an effort to implement countermeasures for global warming, to reduce consumption of fossil fuels, and to prevent air pollution. According to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. (JAMA), the newly sold models of clean energy vehicles in Japan in 2008 consisted of 16 hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), three fuel cell vehicles, and one hydrogen vehicle.
