Argentina has the potential to quadruple oil production to 1.2 million b/d from the Vaca Muerta shale play by stepping up the rig count, a move that would increase exports, Tecpetrol CEO Ricardo Markous said June 28. Vaca Muerta, one of the world’s largest shale plays, is currently producing 300,000 b/d even though Argentina has been in an economic and financial crisis for the most part since 2018, Markous said at the annual conference of the Argentine Institute of Finance Executives in Buenos Aires.
