Sleep might have a pivotal role in rehabilitation medicine: A road map for care improvement and clinical research

Dear Editor. There is growing evidence that the life course trajectories of neurological conditions are accompanied by sleep-related symptoms and a diversity of sleep disorders. However, the identification and appropriate management of sleep disorders during the crucial phases of neurological recovery after injury or during the course of neurodegenerative diseases remains underestimated and often neglected. The purpose of this letter is to provide physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) physicians with an overview of common sleep problems among patients with neurological conditions and to raise awareness of these common and cofounding comorbidities.
