Q Does anybody know of any married couples who crashed in a front-line aircraft? If so, Lloyd Wright would be interested as his mother and father, Thelma and Dudley, were aboard the 'pranged' and fully armed Lockheed Ventura seen in the accompanying photograph, which came down in Kangaroo Valley, New South Wales, in World War Two. He says, "Mum was in signals and took the message in South Australia which announced that the Japanese had bombed Darwin. Dad was a specialist navigator and often flew damaged aircraft from the front line back to Melbourne to be repaired, and Mum often hitched a ride with him. He was known as 'Piewagon' because he was pilot, engineer, wireless operator, air gunner and navigator."
