End of the line

Alan Dowsett's article in the October issue brought back many happy - and some sad -memories of a lovely aeroplane. As a schoolboy I well remember the front-page announcement in The Times of the Jetstream project, at a time when the UK was busy producing many wonderful civil aeroplanes, from BAC, Hawker Siddeley, Handley Page, Shorts, Britten-Norman, Beagle and others. Unfortunately this era was to become the last gasp of our nation building complete aircraft.
