A new source location of Lamb (or plate)-type acoustic emission signal monitored by a single AE transducer is proposed. The source location of Lamb wave is generally difficult due to dispersive nature, however, can be accurately estimated from the dispersion data of group velocities of zero-th order anti-symmetric modes (A{sub}0-mode). The author first studied the effect of basic wavelet functions on the accuracy of determining the group velocity dispersions of A{sub}0-mode waves. Among the various basic wavelet functions, adoption of the Laplacian Gaussian function enables to determine the source location within average error of 1 mm over 200 mm long propagation distance for 1mm thick aluminum plate.
