The history of rubber in Kerala starts with planting of 26 seeds brought by Sir Henry Wikham, in Nilambur. Its success prompted large scale planting in other areas of erstwhile Kerala.A group headed by Captain Kirwan formed the Central Malabar Rubber Syndicate. They took on lease large areas of forest in Balusseri and Kuttiadi and formed separate companies in these areas. Mr.Bernad Malcom formed Edivanna Rubber Company in Nilambur. Itwas Mr.E.G.Windle who got the land from Cochin state to start Pudukkad rubber company. Bartan Wright was the first manager of this property. Mr.Campbell Pinder Hunt started planting in Kinalur, but shortly afterwards in 1913 RGD Norman took over as themanager and reminded up to 1946 and planted almost 2000 acres. Kuttiadi was also planted by him. Mr .Robin Lescher planted Edivanna.
