Active Participation = Maximum Value

I congratulate the editorial board of (mt) magazine and all of this edition's contributors for putting together an issue that addresses such a broad spectrum of important and interesting topics-as usual! The magazine's readership includes not only SNAME members but also many non-member subscribers, and even more who look at the copies of their colleagues and friends. I'd like to encourage all of you who fall into these categories to take up membership yourselves. An application form is included in this issue and is also easily available online. In the April issue, I noted that my future messages would look at how SNAME is working to recruit new members, and to ensure we retain you all for the long term. SNAME is in competition for your money and time, so we have to offer genuine value to all of our member types. (mt) provides part of this, but only if you read it. Similarly, in every area of membership, the greatest value comes from being an active participant. This ranges from attending local meetings and webinars to authoring technical papers at our major events and contributing to one of our many committees and communities.
