The effect of the centrifugal distortion on the individual rotational energy levels of semirigid asymmetrical rotator molecules is calculated by an approximate quantum‐mechanical treatment. A secular equation is obtained which reduces to the Wang equation when the molecule is rigid and which can be factored to the same extent as the Wang equation. It is shown that the numerical coefficients which occur are identical with those which enter the classical treatment of this problem, if the assumption is made that the vibrational wave functions are harmonic oscillator functions.
