The use of microwave vehicle detectors with traffic signals

Microwave vehicle detectors (MVDs) using-the Doppler principle have been used in Scotland for many years. The issuing of specification TR 2123 by the Department of Transport in 1992 resulted in a large number of MVDs being installed at junction signals in England. The Traffic Control User Group of the County Surveyors' Society has carried out a survey to establish whether MVDs are being installed and maintained adequately. The information obtained has been used to produce an installation specification and applications guide.
