A male Philonthus confinis Strand was sieved from horse dung on Roydon Common National Nature Reserve in West Norfolk (VC 28) on 11 September 2020.This is apparently the first record for Norfolk and only the eleventh British record.Another male was taken from dung at the same location by Steve Lane on 22 September but no others were found during a subsequent search.Other Philonthus species recorded were P.albipes (Gravenhorst),P.parvicornis (Gravenhorst),P.splendens (Fabricius) and P.varians (Paykull).All known earlier records of P.confinis are listed in Table 1.
