What can IT practitioners learn from mainstream engineers? Taking a pre-emptive view to learning from associative professions can surely help techies better understand the big picture; but should they only cross that discipline when they come to it? COMPARISONS HAVE long been made between the skills involved in mainstream engineering and those demanded by the engineering of IT systems. Both are directed at the construction of projects for practical applications, and use technology and scientific principles to deliver practical applications.
