Sony Corp. has released the HDR-XR520V and HDR-XR500V Advanced Video Codec High Definition (AVCHD) camcorders, which feature about twice the sensitivity compared to previous models. This enables shooting of high quality images with minimal noise and even under dim lighting. The HDR-XR520V expects to sell around ¥150,000 (US$1,670), while the HDR-XR500V is around ¥130,000 (U$1,440).The high-sensitivity feature was made possible by integrating the company's original Exmor R CMOS sensor. It is also equipped with an optical image stabilizer with about 10 times the correction area of conventional models and a high-performance G lens for enhanced image quality. The HDR-XR520V can record HD video up to 101 hours on a 240GB built-in hard disc drive (HDD), while the HDR-XR500V records about 50 hours on a 120GB HDD. Equipped with a GPS function, the camcorders can record position information on images.
