CONFIRMATION OF THE SYNONYMY OF LEIOPROCTUS NIGRIVENTRIS (FRIESE, 1924) AND LEIOPROCTUS THORNLEIGHENSIS (COCKERELL, 1906) (HYMENOPTF.RA: COLLET!DAE)

The taxon Leioproctus nigriventris (Friese) has been treated both as a valid species and as a synonym of Leioproctus thornleighensis (Cockerell). Both are treated as valid species in the most recent revision (Maynard, 2013). Re-examination of the typematerial has confirmed that L. nigriventris is a junior synonym of L. thornleighensis. Leioproctus capillatus (Rayment) remains the only currently identified Australian Leioproctus Smith species with long setae on the compound eyes. A lectotype of L. thornleighensis is designated.
