New data from the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) has highlighted the alu-minium industry’s achievements in energy efficiency in the continuing journey towards optimum sustainability. The latest figures encouragingly show a reduction of energy intensity in both refining and smelting from 2010 to 2020 and that the use of renewable energy is increasing. The data release coincides with a series of announcements in the lead up to COP26, the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties in Glasgow from 31 October to 12 November 2021.
