Several articles this year have defined the utility of color Doppler imaging in the evaluation of the acute scrotum. They all indicated that when flow was present ischemia could be excluded. They also highlighted that sensitivity to slow flow is required, performance depends on the equipment used, and small prepubertal testes may be difficult to evaluate. In 68 patients suspected of having cancer, magnetic resonance showed very high sensitivity and specificity. In a large series of patients with non-seminomatous cancer, the pathologic stage agreed with the clinical stage in 75% of cases and bipedal lymphography did not improve on computed tomography imaging alone. A variety of other pertinent studies are reviewed.
