Operators are scrambling to put measures in place to soften the blow of large-scale tankcar write-offs. PGK asked the federal rail transportation agency for permission to extend the service life of 15-1443 type tankcars by eight years to 40 years in order to keep about 14,000 units — a third of its fleet — in operation. But deputy prime minister Arkady Dvorkovich has refused to submit the request to the council of CIS rail administrations.
