Product exports along Russia’s inland waterways grew by 11.7pc to 12.69mn t(254,000 b/d)last year,reflecting higher refinery output and firms’decision to maximise cheaper river deliveries in preference to shipments by rail, where there was a shortage of capacity(see p19). The Samara hub,which includes the river terminals at Kashpir,Syzran,Samara,Oktyabrsk and Yablonevy Ovrag, remained the key loading point last year.Kashpir,Syzran and Samara loaded fuel oil,vacuum gasoil(VGO)and marine fuels produced by Rosneft.The state-run firm exported 2.9mn t of products by river last year,down from 3.1mn t in 2012,after it switched some cargoes to the rail network for delivery to terminals at Ust-Luga on the Baltic and Novorossiysk on the Black Sea under its contract with trading giant Gunvor.
