Latvian Railways loses freight

Product shipments by Latvian Railways — mainly from Russia and Belarus — fell by 34pc on the year to 12.9mn t in January-September, as Russian firms increased deliveries to domestic ports. Latvian Railways’ revenues totalled ?139.7mn ($145.9mn) in January-September, down by ?25.7mn on the same period of 2015, with profits falling by ?8.2mn to just ?1.6mn. The company blames lower transit shipments. Freight turnover totalled 34.3mn t in January-September, down by 8.3mn t. Latvian Railways has a 3,171km network, including stations and access tracks.
