Big four lose market share

The four companies that dominate river product exports in Russia all lost market share last year, in the face of competition from smaller firms and an overall drop in deliveries. The combined market share of Bashvolgotanker, VF Tanker, Palmali and Prime Shipping, which use their own and leased vessels, fell by 7.78 percentage points to 60pc. River product exports from Russia fell by 15pc to 10.8mn t in 2014. The season was characterised by delays along routes to the Baltic caused by shallow water near Gorodets lock in the Nizhny Novgorod region. And the number of vessels carrying products along the Volga-Don waterway to floating storage in the Kerch strait rose.
