Total shipments along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) through Russia’s Arctic waters totalled 3.7mn t last year, up by 31.6pc on 2013, according to the transport ministry. But shipments traversing the full length of the NSR were down sharply on the previous year, totalling 274,300t, after four years of steady increases had taken them to a peak of 1.36mn t in 2013. Shipments of refined products traversing the NSR reached 185,400t last year, down from 911,300t in 2013. And no LNG carriers passed through the NSR last year, unlike in 2013.
