US registers May stockbuild

US oil stocks rose in May, on a surge in imports of crude and gasoline. US oil stocks rose by 650,000 b/d in May but remained 35mn bl down on a year earlier. Forward cover of 56 days was two days less than in May 2010 although still above the seasonal norm. Crude inventories were at a two-year high of 371mn bl at the end of May, after a build of 4mn bl - the fifth month in a row that stocks have risen.
