Gasoline strengthened as inventories fell, while Gulf coast diesel found some support from the prospect of arbitrage sales to Europe and South America. Low demand pressured fuel oil in the Gulf coast market, while strong buying lifted vacuum gasoil (VGO). Refinery rates rose to about 88pc of capacity, but utilisation will fall again as autumn turnarounds begin.
