The US administration has finalised its plan for tighter regulation of over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives. Its proposal would allow oil companies that use these instruments to hedge against risk to avoid new margin requirements.The Treasury Department sent a 115-page legislative proposal to Congress on 11 August that fleshes out the details of the plan treasury secretary Timothy Gei-thner has been touting for the last three months (AGM, 18 May, p2).
