Weak demand is pushing more middle distillates into storage. Oil firms are taking advantage of relatively low freight rates to charter vessels for floating storage as onshore tank space fills up. Independent storage tanks in the Rotterdam region currently hold just over 17mn bl of heating oil and diesel, more than twice levels a year ago. Some tanks have already reached capacity.
