Russia’s federal tax service has lodged an Rbs8.3bn ($200mn) claim against Palmali, the country’s largest river shipping company. In mid-September, Palmali lost a case in the Rostov region arbitration court against the tax inspection service of Rostov-on-Don’s Leninsky district, which has banned Palmali from making asset transfers and frozen accounts holding over Rbs8.3bn. The Leninsky district tax inspectorate is demanding more than Rbs6bn in extra taxes and has levied Rbs2.4bn in penalties and fines. It lodged the claim following a field audit carried out to check the accuracy of tax assessment procedures and the timeliness of payments in 2010-11.
