Caspian tanker demand on the rise

Demand for small tankers to ship products from Turkmeni- stan’s Caspian port of Turkmenbashi was on the rise last month, although the persistent tonnage surplus kept freight rates in check. Azeri company Caspian Sea Shipping’s 5,000t tanker, the Gehreman Hesenov, chartered by MG Energy General, delivered 4,200t of A-80 gasoline from Turkmenbashi to Aktau, Kazakhstan, in early September — the first Turkmen gasoline to head along this route. Freight rates are estimated at $18-22/t.
