Unplanned refinery shutdowns eclipse scheduled work

US refinery maintenance will be light in the fourth quarter after a flurry of unplanned summer shutdowns.Several major turnarounds are planned in the midconti-nent before the end of the year,and nearly 125,000 b/d of capacity is expected to be shut in the fourth quarter(see table).This exceeds planned shutdowns of just under 95,000 b/d for the US Gulf coast,where refinery output is rising after problems in Texas and Louisiana.
