Benchmarks need to find a practical compromise between volume and precision.Plans to create a single global crude marker based on North Sea Dated,also known as Dated Brent,fail on both counts.US and Asian crude markets have more precise pricing options,with higher liquidity,if they move away from existing benchmarks.The idea that Atlantic basin crude marker Dated Brent can be applied to crude markets in Asia and the Americas is misguided.
