Chinese crude imports rise amid subdued oil demand

China's net crude imports in April rose strongly compared with a year earlier, early customs data show. Net imports reached 3.86mn b/d last month, compared with 3.74mn b/d in March.Much of the extra crude headed to the new 240,000 b/d Huizhou refinery in Guangdong, which CNOOC started up in April after delays. The start of commercial operations at the refinery took China's throughputs for April and May to over 7mn b/d, Argus estimates.
