Mexican grid operator Cenace is assessing whether the state of Baja California can participate in California’s energy imbalance market (EIM). Cenace and California’s Independent System Operator (ISO) are studying whether the isolated Mexican state should participate in the real-time EIM. 'One of the fundamental strengths of the real-time market is having economies of scale, and every entity that participates in the market adds to the overall robustness and liquidity of the market,' ISO says. Cenace hopes participation will optimise generation in the state and better exploit renewable energy sources.
