Products prices fall back after recent gains

Gulf coast products prices rose to their highest in nearly three months, with spot gasoline and diesel pushing above year-ago levels. Concerns over an approaching tropical storm with the potential to become a hurricane added to tighter supplies caused by refinery problems in the region. Prices for 87 conventional gasoline peaked in the Gulf coast market on 24 August at almost $1.60/USG, their highest since early June, before dropping to below $1.50/USG on 30 August.
