Global oil demand growth has slowed, reflecting higher prices and the effects of the earthquake in Japan. Demand in the Argus-15 group of consuming countries, which account for 60pc of world consumption, rose by 1.9pc in March compared with an average increase of 4pc in the previous six months. Oil sales in industrialised countries were barely higher than a year earlier. Declining demand in Europe and Japan offset minor growth in the US.
