Qatar's condensate and light product exports are increasing, as the first gasoil emerges from Shell's Pearl gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant. Shell was due to load the first 35,000-45,000t cargo of GTL diesel from Pearl by 11 June. The cargo appears not to have been offered in the Mideast Gulf market, and is likely to remain in Shell's own system for blending. GTL diesel is virtually free of sulphur and aromatics. It has a high cetane number of 72-78, a desirable combustion quality that means it can be blended with lower quality distillates to meet exacting European or Japanese diesel specifications.
