China's diesel market is at its tightest since the run-up to the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Apparent demand for diesel - net imports plus production - rose to 3.1mn b/d in January-August, 14pc above a year earlier. Commercial diesel stocks have fallen since February, hitting 57.2mn bl at the end of August. And shortfalls have pushed domestic values above government-imposed price caps.
