Light-heavy spread boosts US runs

Improving heavy crude economics are one reason why US independent refiners are raising runs this quarter. US crude runs will rise by just over 500,000 b/d in the second quarter compared with the first, the EIA projects, with catalytic cracker throughputs increasing by 260,000 b/d over the same period. The rise is largely to build gasoline stocks for the summer (AGM, 15 March, p2).
