A reduction in state subsidies is unlikely to have much effect on India's rapid oil demand growth.Oil demand rose by 7pc to 2.6mn b/d in the fiscal year ending in March-the fastest rate in eight years-on strong demand for jet,gasoline and diesel(see table). Diesel demand rose to Imn b/d(AGM,19 May,p5). Jet demand is soaring as low-cost airlines expand.
