A huge oil surplus is building, reflected in falling prices and rising inventories. A deepening contango - prompt discounts to forward values - in the North Sea market is making it profitable to buy prompt crude to store it for sale at forward prices. With crude production continuing to outpace demand, more than 2mn b/d could be added to the global stockpile in the first and second quarters.
