API study touts export benefits

Lifting US crude export controls would boost US light sweet marker WTI by up to $4/bl, but would have a limited impact on refining margins, a new study says. Easing export controls would narrow, but not eliminate, WTI’s discount to Brent crude prices as US output increased global supply, according to consultancy ICF International, whose report was commissioned by industry group the API. WTI prices would be $2.25-4.00/bl higher in 2015-35 than if US policy makers were to make no change to US export rules, the report says.
