Chinese buying for new infrastructure has boosted Asia- Pacific demand for west African crude to a record high. Nearly 2.1mn b/d of west African crude will load for Asia-Pacific next month, 160,000 b/d more than in November and a new record (see graph). New refining and storage capacity in China is behind much of the rise. Chinese firms are taking nearly 1.3mn b/d of crude from west Africa next month, up by 100,000 b/d on November.
