Maintaining the margins

Refiners are enjoying the benefits of firming demand and strong margins. Global crude runs are well up on previous years, despite extensive maintenance seasons first in the US, then in Europe and Asia-Pacific. Throughputs in Japan, India and South Korea were 900,000 b/d lower in April than in February, and over 1mn b/d of capacity was scheduled to go off line in China in May.
