Drewry Crude Tanker Equity Index jumped 19% in 1Q23 after surging97.6% in 2022 as crude tanker companies benefitted from the spikein demand and earnings of carriers. Earnings of tankers strengtheneddue to the shift in trade patterns amid Europe’s move to reduce its energydependence on Russia. The index outperformed S&P500, which moved up7% during the quarter. Furthermore, the index outperformed the broadermarket despite a 9.7% fall in March, as a rise of 31.3% in February wasmore than enough to offset the decline in March.
