US commodities regulator the CFTC islooking to apply a new swaps market cus-tomer protection regime to the futuresmarket, including oil futures, in the wakeof the October collapse of MF Global.The CFTC finalised a rule thatrestricts clearing houses from using cus-tomer funds to plug shortfalls caused by adefaulting clearing member broker on 11January. CFTC chairman Gary Genslerhas asked his staff to consider whetherthis rule, which stems from the 2010Dodd-Frank financial reform act, shouldbe used in an overhaul of safeguards gov-erning futures trades.
