It is commonly said that this age is the age of change. This truth is hot expressed exclusively in politics and economy but also in many industrial domains. Some people believe that the changes witnessed in the decade of the nineties as well as in the first months of this year are more influential in the course of the economic life than whatever our world has ever witnessed over more than one hundred years. Maybe the steel industry is not that far from what has taken place of change in this world. More even than that, it may be said that the steel industry has been at the forefront of the industries which held up the banner of change. The most prominent phenomena of the change which has taken place in the field of this industry, especially within the last years, are represented in the merger and also in forming alliances having a technical and commercial character, and even in the field of research and development.
