Needless to say that North African markets are import-oriented and the biggest buyers are Egypt, Algeria and Libya. The North African region according to the 2009 data is buying 12% of all long products (LP) imported globally, including semis. At the same time, this region is purchasing 52% of all rebars and 22% of all hot rolled coils and sheets imported to the MENA countries. North Africa is the key buyer of the continent, purchasing 60% of all steel products imported to Africa. It is the most important market for the regional suppliers: Turkey, EU and CIS.
