Qatar Steel is set to sign sales deal with Mauritanian firm

Doha: Qatar Steel yesterday said it will soon strike a sales deal with the Mauritanian Guelb el Aouj DR pellet project in "which it has 49.90 percent equity. Having completed a definitive feasibility study (DFS), Qatar Steel, along with other stakeholders - Australia's Sphere Investments and Mauritania's Snim (Societe Nationale In-dustrielle et Miniere) - will now proceed with the financing and development of the project, which is expected to start by 2010 with an annual direct reduction pellet production of 7mn tonnes.
