Tesla planning to bypass rare earths

At its investor day this week, Tesla unveiled a master plan which includes a platform for building next-generation electric vehicles, with a powertrain containing a permanent magnet motor that will not use rare earths. Tesla repeated the claim on Twitter: "We're developing a powertrain that's more efficient also doesn't require any rare earths."
