National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) intends to make Iran a gas hub for the whole region, and to attain that goal, the means preferred by Tehran are to increase natural gas production capacity in the south of the country, to step up exports, imports and swaps, and to develop the domestic gas transmission network. The main countries with which Iran trades gas at present are Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and the Republic of Najichevan, and Tehran is seeking to develop gas trade relations with other nearby countries.
